Captain America: The Winter Soldier 3D - Movie Review

Captain America: The Winter Soldier 3D - Movie Review

The events in CAP 2 takes place 2 years after the 'New York Incident' (Avengers Climax). Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) is still getting adapted & used to the modern world 'mediocrities'. One day Director of S.H.I.E.L.D [
Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division] introduces Cap to a highly secretive 'Project Insight' which consists of 3 Helicarrires that works as Drones, analyses data communications and predicts future crimes and take preemptive actions against possible threats. On understanding the possible ramifications the project can have, Fury decides to shut it down. His convoy gets ambushed and Fury gets killed by a new enemy 'Winter Soldier' who had a past with CAP. Rogers gets branded a 'fugitive' for withholding info about Fury. CAP is on a run to save his country & his life from the unholy elements that has infiltrated the agency and to get to the bottom of the 'Winter Soldier' mystery, with the help of 'Black Widow' & 'Falcon'

After IronMan, CAP is my favorite super hero character among the films that came so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like the previous film this too is more closer to reality and is not CGI heavy like the other installments in MCU. There are more hand to hand fights, chase, in ground action unlike super hero movies. Its more real at the same time has the elements that one would expect from such a movie.

CAP stories have always been related to real events, in the past or the futute, which is the most important aspect of this franchise IMO. While in the prequel it had WW 2 backdrop, here it deals with the current political scenario. Can see NSA, Spying, drones, Snowden like issues being addressed here. Even though 'Winter Soldier' is in the title, the character fails to get that much importance in the films.

Russo brothers have done a great job directing the movie, balancing between super hero prerequisites and keeping the character close to reality. Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, who also wrote Thor 2 & CAP 1, have added all the elements that we except from a Marvel movie - tongue in cheek humor, action, racy-entertaining narration etc. Cinematography is very good, even though as always the post converted 3D is tacky. Background score was decent.

Chris Evans has done a great job as Steve Rogers and Captain America. Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie etc have also done their part well. Robert Redford impresses as the main antagonist.

In all CAP 2 will be a good summer treat for Marvel fans and a nice time pass action flick for others. Those who have reached super hero movie saturation better stay away, as its nothing unique or different like Dark Knight.

As always there are 2 end credits scenes, and one introduces 2 new characters who will play an important role in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

Verdict: Good

Mannar Mathai Speaking 2 - Malayalam Movie Review

Mannar Mathai Speaking 2 - Malayalam Movie Review

Directed by     Mamas
Produced by     Siby Thottupuram, Joby Mundamattom
Music by     Rahul Raj
Studio     SJM Entertainment.
Release dates     24th January, 2014
Country     India
Language     Malayalam

 Cast

  Innocent as Mannar Mathai
     Mukesh as Gopalakrishnan
    Saikumar as Balakrishnan
    Vijayaraghavan as Ramji Rao
    Biju Menon as Mahendra Varma
    Janardhanan as Garvasees Aashan
    Indrans as Ponnappan
    Priyanka as Shakunthala
    Shammi Thilakan
    Aparna Gopinath
    Akshitha
    Kalabhavan Shajon

Mannar Mathai Speaking 2 deals with another episode in the lives of Ma-Go-Ba [Mathai, Gopapalakrishnan & Balakrishnan]. The 3 after events from MMS have moved on in their lives & are now running 'Urvashi Travels'. Even though the bid adieu to their passion theater(Drama), Mathai still has the heart of a thespian drama artist who wants to get on stage for one final time to celebrate 25th anniversary of 'Urvashi Theaters'. That's when few characters in the past, along with a couple of new, enters their lives with fresh set of troubles. How the 3 tackle them, like the other 2 movies, forms the rest of the story.

RRS, MMS are regarded as comedy classics, with everyone remembering most of the iconic scenes & dialogues from both the movies, quite evident from the response of people whenever such scenes were shown in between. So a sequel to those movies will be having expectations, but the experiences of most of the sequels that came in recently in Mollywood were not good, except 2 Hari Har Nagar, & MMS 2 manages to squece right in between.

MMS 2 is a decent entertainer that isn't boring or lagging. If you go without any expectations it can be a pleasure ride. The film doesn't boast of a unique story or narration, it just sticks to the basic idea of sequels to make some quick bucks, but unlike many others this one manages to entertain, thanks to the charm of the characters. They have brought in almost al the important characters in previous 2 possibly that they could possibly do [missing were Mamukoya, Harisree Asokan etc]. The film is better than most of the so 'called' comedies that Mollywood churn out every year. It has got quite good, double meaning free, laughs.

Its Innocent who shines through out, who looks also pretty same. Even though Mukesh & Sai Kumar has grown much as actors and psychically, the charm and fun is till there. Both villains of previous movies Ramji Rao & Mahendra Varma gets quirky twists, which were well done IMO.

Songs are disappointing, BG was okay. Camera Editing were efficient. Direction was average, Scripting was intelligent, in the sense that without anything out of the box a decent entertainer was churned out. Liked the way scenes of Cochin Haneefa, Machan Varghese & Kaduvakulam Anto were used as a tribute to them, even though would have liked a 'remembrance' in the titles.

Watch it to have some nice time and see the loved characters once again on screen

Rating 2.75/5

Verdict: Above Average

Last Word: Decent Comedy Entertainer, with no New Gen elements

Geethaanjali - Exclusive Malayalam Movie Review

Geethaanjali - Exclusive Malayalam Movie Review

Directed by     Priyadarshan
Produced by     G. P. Vijayakumar
Screenplay by     Abhilash Nair
Dialogue: Dennis Joseph
Music by     Vidyasagar
Cinematography     S. Tirru
Editing by     T. S. Suresh
Studio     Seven Arts International
Distributed by     Seven Arts International
                                P J Entertainments (Europe)
Release date(s)  14 November 2013
Country     India
Language     Malayalam

Cast

    Mohanlal as Dr. Sunny Joseph
    Suresh Gopi as Nakulan (Cameo)
Keerthy Suresh as Geetha & Anjali
    Nishan as Anoop
    Swapna Menon as Mary
    Nassar
    Siddique
    Madhu
    Innocent
    Harisree Ashokan
    Ganesh Kumar

'Geethaanjali' is the sort of sequel to All time Malayalam classic 'Manichitrathazhu', which is a huge baggage itself. Expecting anything remotely close especially with Priyadarshan at the helms of of affairs was out of the question. But still the trailer and video song were able to create some sort of hype before the release.

Story

'Geethanjali' deals with another interesting 'case' that Para-Psychologist Dr. Sunny Joseph gets to encounter in his career. On his friend Nakulan's request Sunny comes to Kerala to investigate about the paranormal activities taking place in an old mansion, once soon to be married Anjali & Anoop sets foot inside.

Geethanjali is a nice watch for those who don't frequent Hollywood/Foreign horror films, for others this might be an under whelming outing. Its definitely one of the better horror 'attempts' from Mollywood
after a long time.

First half was good where the story gets established. In the second half especially toward the end the writer looses complete control and felt like everything was rushed and didn't knew how to end properly. Innocent's role which was meant as a comic releif gets repeatative after a point. The basic idea of the film is inspired from a Thai film, which interestingly has been used in 2  Malayalam films in the past.

Mohanlal gets a extended cameo length role, but his 'Sunny' failed to create the charm which he had last time around. Keerthy has made a very good debut, her performance in the climax was very good. Rest of the cast did an okay job.

The main issue with the film is the half baked script. It's Priyadarshan's skill that made a decent entertaining movie out of it. His direction is good, he has tried every trick in the 'horror' book to make the film interesting, thrilling and scary (to an extent). Equally worth appreciating are Tirru's camera work and TS Suresh's editing which prevents the movie from going to a mess. Dialogues were just Okay, had a drama feel in few scenes. Music was disappointing considering the iconic songs
'Manichitrathazhu' had, but Vidyasagar scored big time in Background score. also kudos to the art department who have done an excellent job

As a horror film it quite succeeds in scaring the audience - its thrilling and told in a convincing manner too.  If you avoid any sort of comparison with the iconic predecessor Geethaanjali can be a decent watch.

Being the biggest/widest release ever for Malayalam film, it should at least recover investments, in the worst case scenario.

KRRISH 3 : Exclusive Movie Review

KRRISH 3 : Exclusive Movie Review

Produced & Directed by Rakesh Roshan

Written By Rakesh Roshan, Honey Irani & Robin Bhatt

Music by Rajesh Roshan

Stars: Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut & Vivek Oberoi

Movie Review by Sree Prasad Nair Theater
Grand Al Mariah Cinemas, Abu Dhabi, UAE 31/10/2013 – 11.50pm Occupancy – 100% (Expected)

Rakesh Roshan is known for directing super successful films like Karan Arjun, Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya & Krrish. Krrish3 is a continuation of Krrish & Koi Mil Gaya. Both films were super successful at the box office and started the superhero science fiction trend in Bollywood.

Krrish3 is the first Hrithik Roshan film of 2013. His last film Agneepath released about 20 months back. Krrish stars Hrithik Roshan(in double role) Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut & Vivek Oberoi. Expectations are high from this Solo Diwali release.

STORY

Krrish 3 is the story of Dr. Rohit Mehra and his superhero son Krrish (both roles played by Hrithik Roshan). After defeating the villainous Dr. Siddhant Arya, and bringing his father Rohit back from the dead, Krrish continued fighting against evil and saving innocent lives. Now Krishna is living a happily married life with Priya (Priyanka Chopra) while Rohit is using his scientific brilliance to benefit society. And Krrish is everyone's favorite superhero saviour. Unknown to them, a dark force is growing in another part of the world. Kaal, an evil genius played by Vivek Oberoi is selfishly misusing his powers to spread fear, death and destruction. And he is being assisted by an army of very dangerous beings, which he has created himself. Not long after Kaal's plans are put into action, both Rohit and Krrish find themselves faced with a crisis of epic proportions, which only they can resolve, together. But when they finally cross paths with Kaal and his army, neither of them is prepared for what lies ahead. Kaal not only brings the world to the brink of disaster, he also puts the strength and love of Krishna and his family to the test.

Let me start with the positives of the film.

Positives

Krrish 3 is Rakes Roshan's film all the way. His direction was top class and the film lives up to the international standards and is a technical marvel. Hats off to Rakesh Roshan for actually pulling off this risky film with loads of entertainment & top scenes. Without a doubt Krrish 3 one of the best works of the maverick Rakesh Roshan so far.

Hrithik Roshan's acting is good as Krishna, excellent as Krrish & outstanding as the old Dr.Rohit Mehra. Hrithik seems born to play this role and he enacts it with great confidence that it leaves you asking for more. In fact, you can't imagine any other actor enacting the role of a super hero with such precision. All in all A Hrithik Roshan entertainer.

Another positive of the film is Vivek Oberoi in a never seen before Avatar. He is extra ordinary as Kaal. His role was limited in the first half, but he was rocking in the second half, almost par screen presence with Hrithik. From a comedy role in Grand Masti to a super villian in Krrish 3. 2013 is already a lucky year for Vivek Oberoi.

Kangana Ranut evolves into a different person in Krrish 3. Her make up, her styling & above all her performance is outstanding. Priyanka Chopra is good. However her role is limited, especially in the second half.

But the real strength of the movie is VFX, special effects, action scenes & look of the movies and characters, surely catches your eyes. The over all make up and costumes is very imaginative. Cinematography by S.Tirru matches international standard. There are many scenes that will definetely impress young kids.

Negatives

The music is a huge let down. Rakesh Roshan films are always famous for great music by his brother Rajesh Roshan. Don't know what happend to him this time. A festival release without a hit music is disappointing. Only saving grace is to see Hrithik Roshan's amazing dances in the songs. Placement of the songs are totally wrong.

The romantic angle between Kangana and Hrithik, hard to digest. Also the song Dil Tu Hi Bataa (Excellent locations of Jordan) was not needed. Also no logic to see 'pregnant Priyanka Chopra's dance in Raghupati Raghav & God Allah Aur Bhagwaan song.?

Dialogues are very poor. Rajpal yadav is wasted. Second half is dragging and climax could have been much better.

On the whole, Krrish 3 is a good entertainer with an excellent first half & an average second half with Hrithik's acting and VFX- special effects as pluspoints. At the box office film is all set to open huge (solo Diwali release) with 4000+ screens all over India. An opening day of 25-28cr with a 65-68crore weekend will be bountiful for the makers. But the big question is will it mark the 200 crore mark? Will it cross the Chennai Express record of 208 crore? Unlikely for me! Nevertheless A Diwali Blockbuster!

P:S: This Krrish will win your hearts!!!

Verdict - A Diwali Blockbuster

Rating - 3.5/5! Great Entertainer!!!

Box Office Precition - 175cr

Krrish 3 - Music Review - Was there even a Music Director ??

Krrish 3 - Music Review

Track List

'Krrish 3' is one of the most awaited Hindi film of the year. Sequel to 'Koi Mil Gaya' & 'Krrish', a Hrithik release after 2.5 years, one of the biggest budgeted Indian film, a Super Hero movie, 1.5years of Post production etc made this film red hot among people and in market. so each and every announcement regarding the movie was eagerly awaited. The music of 'Krrish 3' has been finally released, lets have a look if it really matches the immense hype or not.

1. "Krrish Krrish (Title Track)"

I don't think there has been any title track of a Hindi movie that sounded as bad as this one, at least in the recent past. A title track should be the one that sets the album and film on pace, especially a huge film like 'Krrish 3' - considering that this one is a total disaster of a song. There's nothing positive to talk about in this song.

2. "Raghupati Raghav"

This is my pick of the album, which I never even thought in my wildest dream thought would be the case after seeing the song video promo. The only thing I liked in the video was Hrithik's cool dance moves (which won't be 'jaw dropping' for those who frequent Telugu movies). The song has been set/shot as a party number without any energy at all. The song even after repeated hearings fails to bowl you over. But considering the rest of the songs in the album, this definitely is my pick.

3. "Dil Tu Hi Bataa"

Feels like a romantic duet, but fails to raise any kind of emotion in listeners. The orchestration is not just bad, but plain irritating, absolutely not suiting the mood of the song. Even Alsiha Chinai's voice couldn't save this song.

4. "You Are My Love"

This is one song that could turn out to be a Hit once the video is out. Its a quirky romantic track sung nicely by Mohith. As a song its better than the others, waiting to see the Video. Still I don't understand the need of such a song in this kind of a film. Anyway would like to give the benefit of the doubt to this song.

5. "God Allah Aur Bhagwan"

A song that describes 'Krrish ('the super hero'). Sounds much like kids stuff, an anthem like what 'Chota Bheem' or similar cartoon characters have. Nothing much for the mass audience.

The major problem with the songs are the orchestration, nothing seems to suit the mood or lyrics of the movie. Such a big budgeted, heavily hyped movie should have at least one 'Blockbuster' track, leave BB there is not even one 'Hit' material in this entire album. I seriously doubt whether Mr.Rakesh Roshan or Hrithik listened to the song while composing. (or maybe these are exactly the songs they wanted)

Rajesh Roshan have always given blockbuster tracks, but unfortunately its the extreme opposite this time, a shockingly disappointing album. When 'RRR' was the first video released would have predicted the quality of others too, coz usually they release the best track first.

The makers weren't serious about the movie it seems, the entire album feels like has been made for a Kids animation movie. There is nothing either for the masses or classes. May be that's they way they wanted it. With visuals don't know if my opinion is gonna change or not but as an audio album its quite disappointing.

Will Chennai Express eat into Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobaara opening ?

Just like Diwali last year this years EID too would have seen two high profile releases of two big super stars colliding each other - Chennai Express & Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobaara. But unlike last year there was a  holiday in the following week, plus some intelligent tactics by UTV films, made OUATIMD back out from the head on fight, who would in any case be the biggest looser out of the two had they clashed.

according to sources UTV while making deals with theaters for Chennai Express is believed to have  made agreements according to which theaters cannot remove their film before it completes 1 week. At that time the release date of CE was August 8th, but then out of the blue they suddenly decided to postpone the release by one day, saying 'EID falls on 9th.' This according to the ealier agreement ruins the plans of OUATIMD which is supposed to come out on August 15th, the 7th day of CE. Then UTV once again hit a master stroke by releasing CE in about 80-85% of their total screens on 8th evening (After 6pm) itself, with a tag that its just 'Paid Previews' - a release which even smaller films can't afford in full scale. So in papers CE will still be hitting 7th day only on 15th and theaters can't reduce show times or remove the film for OUATIMD, which will affect the films chances.

Now come to the present, CE has released and with over whelming reviews from masses the film has broken almost all existing opening records. The WOM is so good that now even theater owners doesn't want to replace the movie on a National Holiday, aug 15th, Independence Day. The film will reportedly get only about 1500 screens in India, about 2000 less than what CE got.  So all those mentioned above have no validity anymore as its peoples demand and no longer UTV tactics that's affecting OUATIMD. As per now it looks like CE on Day 7 will NETT more than OUATIMD on its First Day

But all is not well with the OUATIMD as well, the promotion has been on the lower side, and almost invisible thanks to the extravagant promotions SRK and co did for CE. Also the songs are not yet popular, an important factor for Box Office opening. The visibility of promos, buzz is also very less for the film having 2 super heroes and one super heroine + its a sequel of a big hit too. May be the makers are very much confident with the product in hand, that they chose to under promote the movie. The movie might be a WOM hit like Aashiqui 2 & Bhaagh Milkha Baag.

Anyway we will get answers to all questions in  days time.....stay tuned for more udpates

Singam 2 - Exclusive Movie Review

SINGAM 2  : Exclusive Movie Review

  Written & Direction by Hari
Produced by S. Lakshman Kumar
Stars : Suriya, Anushka Shetty, Hansika Motwani, Vivek, Santhanam & Rahman

Movie Review by Sree Prasad Nair
Theater – Al Wahda Cinemas, Abu Dhabi, UAE
04/07/2013 – 11pm
Occupancy – Sold Out - 100% (Expected)

Singam 2 is the sequel of 2010 Blockbuster Singam! Singam 2 is riding high on expectations thanks to the superb popularity of the mass superstar Suriya and also the hit 'Singam' franchise. Singam2 is directed by Hari (also directed the prequel Singam). Some of the important characters played by Anushka Shetty, Vivek and Vijayakumar have been retained in Singam 2. In addition Santhanam, Hansika Motwani, Radha Ravi, Manorama and Hollywood actor Danny Sapani have joined the film.

Usually Sequels are very rare in Kollywood. But director Hari  had the idea of a sequel to Singam. Singam 2 is about an Indian cop Dorai Singam who is on a mission to take on crimes overseas. Will he be successful on his mission? Will Singam 2 fare better than Singam ? Or will it follow the disaster "Billa 2" way ?

Positives

Singam 2 is one of the much awaited movie of 2013 in Kollywood, thanks to the mega popularity of Suriya. Suriya is outstanding as Durai Singam. After a long wait, Suriya's fans will witness him back in action and he is damn good at it. Be it action, dance, dialogue delivery or emotions, Suriya is excellent in all.. No other actor can carry off the role of Durai Singam other than Suriya. Yes, The toughest cop is back in charge!!!

Santhanam's acting is first rate. As usual he is the scene stealer of the movie. His comic timing is unmatchable & his witty one liners provides maximum enertainment. Hanshika Motwani is really good. Vivek is decent. Rahman is strictly ok.
Hari's direction is good, especially in the first half. Infact entire first half itself is a winner.  The first half of Singam 2 is a complete package of all sorts with romance, thrills, comedy, emotions and fights. Another plus point of the movie is cinematography by Priyan, magnificiently captured the exotic locations of Southern parts of India & South Arica. Special credit should go to the action director of Singam 2 for amazing action sequences.
Everything till the first half was great and I was hoping for the same treatment in the second half. Unfortunately, It Is Not!!! Why ???

Negatives

The second half of Singam 2 is very ordinary & predictable. And shockingly too-rushed climax is terrible. A climax is meant to be the highlight of a mass masala movie! Unfortunately climax of Singam 2 is hugely disappointing... Bizzare Stuff!!! Another minus point of Singam 2 is miscasting Hollywood actor Danny Sapani as Villain. His acting and screen presence is nowhere near to Prakash Raj. Anushka Shetty don't have much role and is good only in the songs.. Veteran stars like Nassar & Manorama are wasted in 1-2 scene roles.

Another disappointment is the music by Devi Sri Prasad. All songs are very ordinary and the placement of the songs are horribly wrong. A song at the start and at the end of the film is not appealing. Actress Anjali is not convincing as an item girl in the Vaale Vaale song.

Overall an excellent first half, average second half & pathetic climax! Still Singam 2 will emerge as a winner at the box office, thanks to Suriya's stardom & excellent promotion by the makers. The movie is releasing with more than 2,400 screens all over the world in Tamil &Telugu versions. The film is all set to have a phenomenal opening & the healthy weekend-week1 will help the makers to earn healthy profit.

Verdict - "This Singam Is Safe"

Rating - 3/5! Profitable Venture
