Arrambam - Exclusive Music Review

 Arrambam - Music Review

Any Yuvan Shankar Raja musical is waited with bated breaths & if its for an Ajith film the hype even increases. Ajith-Yuvan combo have always given hits, Yuvan is also on a roll with super mega success of Biriyani, so lets see how this one turned out.

 Track List

 1. Adada Arambame

Feels like the Intro/opening song for Ajith. Its a festive mood song. It has got that zip and energy that should be associated with such songs. Shankar Mahadevan's voice should match like anything with Ajith. This is the song in the album that's gonna be an instant/first hit. With visuals the impact of the song is surely gonna grow

3.25/5

 2. Stylish Tamizhachi

Song begins in super style with English rap portions that are simply rocking. It makes one feel that if we are listening an 'English' track for real. The energy gets transferred to the remaining portions of the song too. Its an out and out party blast track, this one is my favorite pick of the album, even though didn't like much after first listening. Singing, Instrumentation, lyrics, rap everything is Kick-Ass

3.5/5

3. Melala Vedikuthu

A typical friendship song, might be picturised on Ajith-Arya-Nayanthara. This is the Holi song in the film.. Loved the lyrics of the song, 'messages infused' one. A particular portion in the music is also quite infectious. An above average song even after multiple listening, may be the video could change the opinion.

2.75/5

4. Hare Rama

Te song begins with high energy, but it soon fizzles out. The instrumentation is once again good but wish if the punch was carried throughout the song. The song has '50 Cent: Candy shop' inspirations here and there I think. Singing is energetic and apt for the song

2.75/5

5.  En Fuse Pochu

Looks like a fun romantic duet picturised on Aarya & Taapses. Has got funky lyrics too. Didn't like the song too much. Considering the theme of the movie a song like this could also end up as speed breaker. The only song in the album that i didn't like. But its not completely bad, liked in bits and pieces, but as a complete song its not up to the mark.

2.25/5

Arrambam in total is a Good, different album but definitely not an instant hit. It lacks that one 'blockbuster track' which can sell the entire album and even the film. Its a complete youth/urban album, maybe specifically orchestrated to cater the theme of the movie. It takes atleast 2-3 listening before you start to get a liking towards the songs. Its everyone's cup of tea and there is very little for the masses.

But for those who like a bit of difference and are fans of Western songs, this one should definitely work for you. I seriously think that once videos are out the songs are gonna be liked even more.

So all in all Yuvan fails to meet the humungous expectations that everyone had for the album. If you have no expectations you might like the album very much, for others I recommend you wait till the video promos are out or listen to song promos multiple times before buying it.

Akshay Kumar's Boss (2013) - Music Review - Paisa Vasoool !!!

Boss is the most awaited Akshay Kumar film of the year. After 2 average films fans of Akshay Kumar are hoping big time that 'Boss' delivers some punch. The film is the remake of Malayalam blockbuster 'Pokkiri Raja'. The initial signs that the films throw at us are positive - The trailer has been very well received, the 2 song promos that has been released have become a rage among people. The entire album came out yesterday, on Akshay's birthday . Now let's see if the album has delivered it or not

Song: BOSS
Caller Tune : sms BSS1 to 54646
Singer: MEET BROS ANJJAN FEAT. YO YO HONEY SINGH
Music Director: MEET BROS ANJJAN
Lyrics: KUMAAR

This is the title song, the first one to be released online. Even though it took a bit of time to grow on me, song was an instant hit with majority thanks to its catchy beat and funky lyrics. The choreography in the video was unique and interesting too. The music, especially the main punch note, is inspired from 'Candy Shop' by '50 Cents'. But it doesn't feel like a complete rip off - kudos to the composers. A perfect song for the mass and class audience.

3.75/5

Song: PARTY ALL NIGHT
Caller Tune : sms BSS11 to 54646
Singer: YO YO HONEY SINGH
Music: YO YO HONEY SINGH
Lyrics: SAHIL KAUSHAL (LILL GOLLU)

This was the second song promo to be released online. Unlike 'Boss' this one caught one the very first instant I heard it and has been playing it ever since. After 'Lungi Dance' another (solo) hit for Yo Yo Honey Singh. The song is a ultimate party number, and is for sure gonna blast the speakers of all music party's across the country. The song do sounds like a faster rappper version of 'Suno Gaour Se Duniya Walo'. But again its the unique Yo-Yo element that makes the song stand out

4/5

Song: HUM NA TODE
Caller Tune : sms BSS5 to 54646
Singer: VISHAL DADLANI
Music Director: P.A. DEEPAK
Lyrics: KUMAAR

Ever since I heard the news that Akshay Kumar has bought the rights for the song 'Appadi Podu' from Gilli [Tamil]  have been waiting to hear the Hindi version of it. Well, 'Hum Na Thode' is that song and eventhough it doesn't quite match to the original is a good one. They have not ruined the song. After 2 songs with 'western' flavour, this one is a pucca desi mass masala number. Vishal Dadlan's voice is a huge plus for the song. Once the video is out, this one also for sure is gonna be a chart buster. Hope that they have given credits to the original composer, Vidyasagar.

3.25/5

Song: PITAH SE HAI NAAM TERA
Caller Tune : sms BSS8 to 54646
Singer: SONU NIGAM, MEET BROS ANJJAN, ALAPS: SANJAY MISRA
Music Director: MEET BROS ANJJAN
Lyrics: KUMAAR

The first melody in the album. A soulful song in the heavenly voice of Sonu Nigam.Loved the song very much. Feels like a song in flashback, may be showing the relations between the brothers and their father.

3.5/5

Song: HAR KISI KO
Caller Tune : sms BSS19 to 54646
Singer: ARIJEET SINGH, NEETI MOHAN
Music Director: CHIRANTAN BHATT
Lyrics: MANOJ YADAV

The only romantic melody in the film, picturized on Shiv & Aditi. again a nice melody. But noting exceptional or out of the box here, but feels nice to listen.

2.75/5

Song: BOSS ENTRY THEME
Caller Tune : sms BSS17 to 54646
Singer: MEET BROS ANJJAN, SONU KAKKAR, KHUSHBOO GREWAL
Music Director: MEET BROS ANJJAN
Lyrics: KUMAAR

Since its an entry music the song has got more 'instruments' than 'vocals'. Not a pulsating of heart thumping one. The only average song in the entire album.

2.5/5

There is one additional track called 'Ganapathi Bappa Morya' in the album which is just a 'Ganesh' special version of 'Boss title song' on account of 'Ganesh Chaturthi' - 3.5/5

'Boss' is a full time mass masala paisa vasool album. Don't just go by the ratings, its a must buy. The more you hear the songs I am sure even the average songs are gona grow on you. 'Boss' is undoubtedly the best Hindi film Music album of the year after 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'.

So with music alsodelivering big time, the film is destined to take the Box Office by storm, come October 16th

Final Rating :- 3.75/5

Verdict: - Paisa Vasool !!!

Tracklist

1. One Two Three Four - Vishal Dadlani, Hamsika Iyer, Tamil Rap : Sricharan Kasturirangan -
2. Titli - Chinmayee, Gopi Sunder -
3. Tera Rastaa Chhodoon Na - Amitabh Bhattacharya, Anusha Mani -
4. Kashmir Main, Tu Kanyakumari - Sunidhi Chauhan, Arijit Singh, Neeti Mohan -
5. Ready Steady Po - Brodha V & Smokey, Enkore, Natalie Di Luccio, Vishal Dadlani -
6. Chennai Express - S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Jonita Gandhi -
7. Titli (Dubstep) - Phoenyx, Chris Mcguiness, Zoheb Khan -
8. Chennai Express (mashup) - DJ Kiran Kamath

1. One Two Three Four
The only mass number in the album, which is quite strange for a mass film. Didn't quite like the song when heard with video, after repeated hearing of (just) the audio started slowly liking the song. The video quite strangely lacks the zest, with ordinary choreography. The song is sure to be lapped up by the masses

2. Titli
A good romantic number. Soulful sound of Chinmayi. But there are 2 more reasons why the song is favorite to me, shot in Kerala & sung by Gopi Sundar.Outstanding visuals + My current Favorite Malayali music composer, singing for SRK, how can it be a disliked - The Dubstep version of the song is also quite cool

3.Tera Rastaa Chhodoon Na

Pick of the album. Good lyrics, music & singing. Video of the song is not out yet, so waiting to see the picturisation. A feel good Romantic duet.

4. Kashmir Main, Tu Kanyakumari
A fun peppy song. Another good faster number. Liked it after repeated hearings

5. Ready Steady Po
The only track that I am diasppointed with this in the entire album. Even repeaed hearings didn't help the cause. May be will like it later on with visual, but as if now :-(
6. Chennai Express

Simply hated when they released a small teaser of the song, but now after listening the entire song it has quite grown on me. The quirky lyrics and jolly-good singing of Legendary SPB makes this a hit.

8. Chennai Express (mashup)
Mix of all the songs, as always done greatly creatively by  DJ Kiran Kamath
With that being said, the film being projected as a mass film and more importantly an SRK starrer the film needed some chart busters foot tapping blockbuster songs like a Muni or Sheila or Fevicol or Character Deela. I think the only song that comes even close is 1,2,3,4.... But considering the fact that Rohith Shetty films, all of which were hits, never had great audio, this one is definitely a plus.

You may not like the songs in one hearing, but give its time & due, you will start singing and grooving to it

Ma not be one of Vishal-Shekhar's best work, but still its good

Verdict: Good
Raitng: 3.25/5

Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Thalaivaa - Music Review

Thalaivaa Music Review

Written by     A. L. Vijay

Starring

    Vijay
    Sathyaraj

    Rajiv Pillai
    Abhimanyu Singh
    N. Santhanam

Music by     G. V. Prakash Kumar

TRACKLIST

First things first - I am not a music expert, just a regular Indian film music lover, just wanted to say what I felt about the songs after listening to them a couple of times. Just layman's point of view. With that being said lets dive in to my review

1. Vaanganna

Easily the biggest track & the main USP of the album. A rough version was leaked months abck and it was a rage among fans and netizens. It as absolute rocker of a track, mixed with 'dappam kuthu' elements. Vijay sound suits the song to a 'T' and he has done a great job just like all his previous 24 songs. Voice of Santhanam also featured in the song.

Verdict: Chartbuster 4/5

2. Thalaivaa

This is one song which could turn up the biggest hit of the album post release, but everything depends on the film. If placed at right situation this song has enough elements in it to create goosebumps. A pulsating, thumping, heartbeat racing anthem, especially for Vijay fans.

Verdict: Thumping 4/5

3. "The Ecstasy of Dance" (Instrumental)

Very good theme, nice use of instruments. Suitable for showing Dance Skills

Verdict: 3.5/5

4.Sol Sol

A Typical romantic duet number, nothing special, but not bad either. Its pretty much hummable. Visuals & the chemistry of lead pair could take the song to higher level [or may be not]. A typical GVP number that could be shot in mountains, valleys, hill sides etc...

Verdict 2.75/5

5. Tamil Pasanga

Feels like an intro song for Vijay's character set in Australia. Another above average/average song. Could expect a dance heavy video & choreography. Don't think the song has it in to go beyond that level even with the video.

Verdict: 2.5/5

6. Yaar Indha Saalai Oram

A nice melody. The best melody in the album. Soothing music & voice takes the song o another level.

Verdict: 3/5

Final Verdict: 3.25/5

A Good, different album - Much better than Thuppaki In My Opinion [I was not a fan of Thuppakki songs, except the first two lines of each song the songs were just average]. A non Massy album, so might take its time to catch up among non-fans, but still worth a buy, easily the best music album of the year
