Salman Khan's Kick - Movie Review

'Kick' is the remake of the Telugu blockbuster, also titled 'Kick' which *ed Ravi Teja & Illeana D'Cruz. Kick tells the story of Devi Lal Singh (Salman) who only do things that gives him a 'Kick, who turns into a Robin Hood like robber who calls himself DEVIL. Jacqueline plays his love interest, Randeep, the cop chasing Devil and Nawazuddin after whom the Devil is.

'Kick' basically is a typical Salman Khan mass entertainer that offers whatever his fans and admirers except from his films. The film begins in a super entertaining manner with Salman Khan in full on energy & mood, playing it to the gallery. The pace slightly drops towards interval and the Devil into could and should have been better. In the second half its the cat n mouse gamr between Salman-Ranndeep-Nawazuddin. From a typical Indian mass masala the film takes a grand hollywoodisque make over in the 2nd half.

The first half feels lengthy, but the later one moves at rapid speed giving not much time for the viewers to think. The script is all over the place with uneven pace. Sajid Nadiadwala makes a decent debut as the Director of this mammoth commercial vehicle. Cinematography is outstanding & Music is really good, which has been picturised beautifully too. Editing was average, especially Devil's intro and the way the scene leading to the now 'iconic' walking before train shot has been cut. The flow between scenes is bumpy. The action sequences in Poland even though looks grandeur, actually lacked finesse in execution on closer look. There's no point searching for logic in such a film, so lets leave that apart.

Despite many flaws KICK manages to satisfy its targets audience thanks to the one man entertainment army called 'Salman Khan'. He is in his best form after a small gap, and looked interested and enjoying the proceedings. Jacqueline looked hot and cute the same time, but her make up was way over the top. She scorched the screen in the 1 min exclusive screen time she got in 'Jumme Ki Raat'. Randeep Hooda was good. Nawazuddin Ziddiqui was excellent, enacting a role, eventhough limited in screen time, which could have easily gone horribly wrong had anybody else did it.

In all KICK is a film for fans and all those like no-brainer mass masala entertainers. Its 140 mins of entertainment package with something for everyone except the intellectuals and critics.

Rating 3/5

Kick - Music Review - Salman Khan

SONG - JUMME KI RAAT
SINGER - MIKA SINGH, PALAK MUCHHAL
MUSIC DIRECTOR - HIMESH RESHAMMIYA
LYRICS - KUMAAR, SHABBIR AHMED

The first song to be released from the album. The quintessential Salman mass dance party number that get you tapping your feet after couple of listening s. Its already a chart buster, but wait till you here the remix version, sung by Salman Khan. Its speaker blasting stuff, typical South Indian 'Dappam Koothu' mix incorporated effectively. Think the makers should release a video on it soon, and it should feature in the movie as well

SONG - HANGOVER

SINGER - SALMAN KHAN, MEET BROS ANJJAN, SHREYA GHOSHAL
MUSIC DIRECTOR - MEET BROS ANJJAN
LYRICS - KUMAAR

My favourite track of the album. Song beautifully by both Salman & (as Always) Shreya. The music makes you groove and rhythm is catchy. The melody works out pretty well and the video has been shot nicely as well. Salman's voice makes the song even more special and can't imagine any other voice for the song now. [Sonu Nigam was supposed to sing it originally and that's a tough shoes to fill in].

SONG - TU HI TU, Reprise

SINGER - MOHD. IRFAN, Neethu Mohan
MUSIC DIRECTOR - HIMESH RESHAMMIYA
LYRICS - MAYUR PURI

Its another nice melody track from the film, but rather than Irfan's its Neeti Mohan's 'Reprsie' version that worked for me. Her takes the song to another level, which Irfan couldn't do, according to Me.

SONG - YAAR NAA MILEY

SINGER - YO YO HONEY SINGH, JASMINE SANDLAS
MUSIC DIRECTOR - YO YO HONEY SINGH
LYRICS - YO YO HONEY SINGH, JASMINE SANDLAS

Have never been a huge fan of rap songs, eventhough there have been quite a few that catched my attention in the past couple of years, few of them belonging to Yo Yo. There was tremendous hype regarding this track, Yo Yo teaming up with Salman,, people were expecting another 'Lungi Dannce'. Eventhough it might not match up to that level, YNM is still a very good track, its just that it might take a while before it grows on you. But there is no doubt regarding the fact that Jasmine's voice will be talked out, it strikes yyou the very first time itself. Yo Yo has limited his rap numbers and given Jasmine more on time, thankfully, as the rap portions didn't work for me. The video if shot well, the song cold have a great reach.

SONG - JUMME KI RAAT

SINGER - SALMAN KHAN, PALAK MUCHHAL
MUSIC DIRECTOR - HIMESH RESHAMMIYA
LYRICS - KUMAAR, SHABBIR AHMED

Its the version that Salman sang, and honestly felt like he was just shouting instead of singing. Felt he was troubling to match up the fast pace being a non trained singer. But the remix version of the same track, as I said before is a Killer one.

SONG - HANGOVER - MBA SWAG

SINGER - MEET BROS ANJJAN, FEAT. MEET BROS ANJJAN, DJ SUMIT SETHI, PRINCE
MUSIC DIRECTOR - MEET BROS ANJJAN
LYRICS - KUMAAR

Its your normal remix track, done neatly. Nothing exceptional that deserves a special mention.

SONG - TU HI TU

SINGER - SALMAN KHAN
MUSIC DIRECTOR - HIMESH RESHAMMIYA
LYRICS - MAYUR PURI

Another great attempt at Singing by Salman Khan. If you likd the other versions of the track or are a salman Khan, better check this one out too. Its an interesting one...
There are 4 original songs and then serious version and remixes of the very same in the Kick album. There is not even a sing average or disappointing track in the album. You will like at least one version of all songs in Kick, which is a guarantee. Absence of Sajid-Wajid's rehash tracks
itself is a welcome change. Jumma & Hangover are already chart buster, with the videos the other 2 are also sure to join that list. After Jai Ho Kick looks like is offering every thing that Salman Fans and mass audience demand from a Salman starrer.

So in all, to my, not a music expert, ears, Kick album is the best commercial, mass album of the year. Go buy it or listen it online
